STEEL BODY PDC BITS
High alloy steel comprises the body of steel body fixed cutters, oftentimes making them repairable and good for multiple runs. Damaged cutters can be replaced rather easily, it is a particular advantage for operators in low-cost drilling environments. They're commonly manufactured with higher blade stand-off and cutter exposure since steel can withstand higher impact than matrix. Matrix Body PDC Drill Bit
Matrix body contain tungsten carbide material grains metallurgically bonded with a softer, tougher, metallic binder. Matrix is a very hard , rather brittle composite material. This Matrix-body PDC drill bit provides improved wear resistance to abrasion and erosion. A higher cutter count can also make them heavier set. In applications of high fluid volume or high sand, matrix body pdc drill bits offer longer life and multiple bit runs. It is capable of withstanding relatively high compressive loads, but, compared with steel, has low resistance to impact loading.
